Just In: Budget Travel Will Announce (OWEGO WE HOPE) Winner of Coolest Small Town…
You already know that BingPop has been shaming Southern Tier residents into online voting their asses off so that Owego could win Budget Travel’s Coolest Small Town competition… what you may NOT have known is that BT was supposed to announce the winner today. We’ve been pestering their PR company all week for details (and an interview?!?)–but aparantly they got a better offer. Peshaw. The Budget Travel folks will appear live Wednesday morning on The Early Show (CBS) to announce to winner.
When my morning show partner Lori checked the results on the Friday that the poll closed, Owego was 1400 votes ahead. She checked around 6:30; the poll closed at 8.
HOWEVER, the competition is supposedly based on more than the voting–it also takes into account resident-submitted essays that prove "town spirit" *vomit".
Anyway, we’ll be watching Wednesday morning to see what happens. And kick somebody’s ass if we don’t win. Because our small town can beat up your small town. Owego’s got pluck. Damn straight.
